The government of India uses Aadhar for the registration of people. Aadhar is your right towards the Government and no one can stop you in getting this number. It is a 12 digit unique identification number given to the applicant upon submission of supporting documents as prescribed by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India). When you apply for Aadhar, you will not be charged any fees for this. The purpose is to attract as many people as possible to make the Government statistics up to date. However, if you want to make changes in your Aadhar details, then you will be charged nominal fees. The idea is to make people responsible while entering and checking their data right at the very first time.
As an applicant, you have 03 options available to update your name in aadhar smart card, it is your choice to select the one that best suits you:
1. Online - Here you have to log in on the UIDAI website with your Aadhar number. As the online method requires OTP verification, you must have a correct mobile number associated with the records. Otherwise, you will not be able to change the name in the records.
2. Post - You can send your request for a change in details via post service.
3. Enrollment Centre - This most simple way to have your problem solved is to visit Aadhar Enrollment Centre and ask the staff there to update your records.
In a recent move by the UIDAI, it has discontinued Aadhar updating via the postal method. Now, you have only two method left to complete the updating process. If you are visiting the Centre for updating purposes, you have to carry original documents along with you. You are free to visit any of the aadhar card download center of your choice. There is no hard and fast rule to visit any particular branch. The fees you need to pay is just 25 INR per update.
If you are using online Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) of UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), they can easily update name, Mobile, Email, Address & DOB (date of birth) from there.
